As a Tribology, Spacing & Physical Characterization Engineer you will perform a new & exciting function for developing next generational hard disk drive (HDD) Technology, namely Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR), through tribological testing and physical characterisation.
This job will require you to operate advanced testers, analyse test and physical characterisation data and direct a team of technicians and operators.
In this role you will be directly responsible alongside other specialist engineers in the team for the implementation, development and operation of tribology component head & media testing at the Thailand head operations site, focusing on the new development of HAMR Blade HDD-like testing in environmental chambers.
You have experience with hands-on tester operation and working with Technicians and Operators. You are an independent problem solver, and have good communication and organizational skills able to present to audiences in worldwide calls on a weekly basis.
You should be proactive, driven and have an R&D and statistically orientated mindset.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Implementation, developmentand operation of Hard disk drive and HAMR technology tribology component head andmedia testing.
Work on varioustribometers and testers, focusing on the new development of BladeHDD-like testing in environmental chambers, to characterize mechanical,electrical and magnetic performance, reliability and lifetime of head designsand media pairings.
Perform basicscripting and setup of testers to enable the required testing and desired dataoutput.
Work closely withexisting engineers on site and with worldwide teams to execute testing requirementsand report evaluations.
Coach and direct ateam of technicians and operators to perform the required testing, dataanalysis and reporting on a 24-7 operating model.
Analyse data with statistical software,perform signal analysis, make concisetechnical reports that summarize the data and present these coherently toworldwide teams.
Work closely with the onsite metrologyand materials characterization lab to design the required analyses of headspost-testing and obtain relevant conclusions that influence design decisions.
Lead tester statistical process controland preventative maintenance activities per IMS / ISO standards.
Assist with otheradhoc duties as assigned, wider departmental tasks and team building events.
Attend and participatein conferences, offsite meetings and interlocks as assigned which could beoverseas.
Qualifications REQUIRED :
A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Materials / Tribology Engineering / Physics or related fields.
A minimum of 5 years of experiencein R&D / Industry or Academic Research / Testing / Characterization orrelated field.
Skilled in MS Office and generallycomputer literate.
A Master’s or Ph.D. in Mechanical / Electrical / Materials / Tribology Engineering / Physics or related fieldswould be strongly preferred.
A PhD Degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Materials / Tribology Engineering / Physics or related fields.
Previous experience as a R&D / Research / Testing / Characterization engineer or academic researcher.
Experience or knowledge in Tribologytesting and / or characterization by metrology and electron microscopy.
Python, Matlab, JMP, Minitab, VisualBasic, MS Excel, VBA macro.
Demonstrate a fluent level of English / Thai proficiency (written / verbal).
Strong listening, communication,interpersonal and relational skills to develop a good relationship within theorganization of Engineers, Technicians and Operators.
Self-motivated with the ability tomulti-task and work collaboratively in a team environment.
Able to design experiments and organizeworkflows to give direction to Technician and Operator level.
R&D oriented mindset, able to thinkoutside the box, able to investigate without direction.
Critical and logical thinker,statistically minded.
Able to make concise reports thatsummarize data and present these coherently to worldwide teams.
Experience with hands-on tester operation.
